She's pretty much ready to drive. We tried to fire her last night around midnight and the engine just wouldn't fire. Probably had to do with the cold air temps. We haven't had enough time to mess with our start compensations, and we didn't break out the laptop to do it on the fly last night. We'll probably get her running and driving Tuesday or Thursday. In the mean time, I haven't done homework for the last week because I've been in the shop all the time, so I have a lab report, a MATLAB project, homework, and two midterms next week I need to work on. Hooray me.

What does it have for power? What do you run it in? Looks like a lot of fun.

Man, I really miss this, but that's probably because its been long enough for me to forget all the awful parts.

Its a Formula SAE car, so we run it at those events (I think there's only two races in the US each year), but we'll also take it to autocrosses and events like that for driver training. It's got a Yamaha YFZ 450 in it making about 50 hp. FSAE rules dictate smaller than 600cc engine, so most teams run either single cylinder thumpers like ours, or 4 cylinder streetbike engines. The 4 cylinder engines naturally make more power, but they're heavier and take up more room.

Aint that the truth. I have a buddy who was on the team and graduated last year and got a job. He told me last night (he showed up just to say hi) that given the opportunity, despite all the crap we've gone through, he'd build a car all over again in a heartbeat. I'm sure I'll be the same way.

Oh man there are a couple schools in my area that do SAE, CMU and Pitt. I saw CMU testing at the local track in the spring as well. To think if my interests 4 years ago were where they are now I'd be at one of those schools for engineering and be on that team rather than filmmaking in art school. Ugh.
